Serengeti Great Migration has been listed as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Not only does it offer incredible views of the plains dotted with huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle, but the rivers are often infested with large Nile crocodiles lying in wait. Some of the best safari opportunities in the world are found here, across a landscape made up of volcanic grasslands and vast plains interrupted by rocky outcrops, rivers, and forests. Visiting the right area in the right season will treat travellers to astonishing sightings of this natural phenomenon.
These migratory herds also attract the attention of some of the continent’s most renowned predators, ensuring that if travellers are following the Migration; big cats, crocodiles, and hyenas will never be too far behind.
You will land at Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha to start your African adventure. On a clear day, the views from the lodge are outstanding, the snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru towering over the surrounding savannah. With birds singing from the lush treetops, this is an idyllic place to overcome any jet lag. As you settle into Tanzania you’ll notice that everything moves with a relaxed rhythm. Enjoy a guided walk coffee in coffee plantation.
Today after breakfast, you will be picked up at the lodge and transfer to Arusha Airport followed by an schedule flight over the Serengeti plains, and descending onto an airstrip in the north. It’s the Northern Serengeti that has the greatest concentration of wildlife throughout the entire year, the proximity to the Mara River maintaining food and life throughout the driest of the months. The mammal population swells from May to July as the migration passes through. Many ungulates then make the perilous crossing over
the river, although some of the herds prefer to stick to the fresh grazing pastures of the Northern Serengeti.
These northern plains provide flexible itineraries. You could game drive for a few hours in the morning and late afternoon, or spend a full day exploring the enormity of the grasslands. Drive to kopjes, clumps of rock where lions sit with bellies full. Trace prints in the sand and follow a cheetah, watching the spots flicker in and out of the grass. Wind along the southern banks of the Mara River and admire everything that comes to drink, another cluster of animals coming along every ten or so minutes. Sometimes you can
cross open areas and not see anything. Then you cross a ridge and the panorama is suddenly filled with thousands of mammals, including the iconic herds of wildebeest and zebra.
Today, you will transfer from the rolling olive-green hills of lobo to the sublime golden savannas of the Central Serengeti, a world-famous safari destination boasting immaculate game-viewing opportunities and encounters in the wilderness. After arriving and checking into your dreamy glamping suite, you will join a knowledgeable driver guide on an exciting Big Five game drive. Crossing vast plains and retreating to peaceful waterholes, you will keenly survey the Serengeti in search of lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffaloes. Among these iconic sightings, you will spot the reserve’s rare birdlife and other colorful creatures along the way.

The eastern plains are the most unexplored of all the Serengeti’s regions. As they’re not on the northbound migration route, they don’t see a surge in visitors at any point during the year. In fact, there’s a widely held misconception that the Eastern Serengeti has a relative scarcity of wildlife. Which means there aren’t many visitors. The Eastern Serengeti/Namiri area, it’s a special haven for big cat encounters and a fascinating place to end a Serengeti safari. It’s still a research area and some game drives are accompanied by scientists and researchers, adding another layer of insight into the safari.
